Upcoming Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) Committee Meetings
The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) hold a free online meeting every month – join the pubic observer gallery at the next one and have your say!
The Scottish Medicines Consortium is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland. Their role is to offer advice to the NHS in Scotland about the clinical and cost-effectiveness of new medicines.
This includes:
- How well medicines work
- Which patients would benefit from receiving certain medicines
- How well the medicine works and how safe it is to use
- How taking the medicine affects the quality of a patient’s life
- How much the medicine costs compared to the other treatment options.
SMC meetings are open for members of the public to attend. This is to help people to learn how they look at all available evidence before approving a medicine for use in the NHS in Scotland.
Dates for upcoming meetings are as follows:
- Tuesday, 1 September 2026
- Tuesday, 6 October 2026
- Tuesday, 3 November 2026
- Tuesday, 1 December 2026
There will be up to 25 members of the public attending the meeting via Zoom, with representatives from pharmaceutical companies and patient groups.
If the meeting is oversubscribed, priority will be given to patient groups and pharmacy representatives who are involved in a submission being heard at the meeting.
You can register to attend the next meeting on the SMC website. For more information about attending an SMC meeting as a member of the public, you can read their factsheet.
