New research grants funded

Supporting research remains a core part of what we do, and we are delighted to share news of four grants awarded through our 2025 grant call. 

As part of our commitment to funding vital research that addresses the causes, nature and care of psoriasis, we are proud to have awarded three PhD studentships and a Cecil King Memorial Award.  

Congratulations to the following supervisors, who will now begin the process of recruiting PhD students for their studies: 

2025 PhD Studentship Grant recipients 

• Risk of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Psoriasis - Dr Oras Alabas, University of Manchester 
  

  A project using two large UK health databases to compare heart disease risk across treatments and psoriasis severity.  

• Understanding health conditions linked to psoriatic disease across diverse populations Research - Dr Sizheng Steven Zhao, University of Manchester 
  Looking at long-term health problems that may be more likely in those with psoriatic disease, using medical records, questionnaires and genetic information from people from diverse backgrounds. 

• PREQUEL (Psoriasis Response to time restricted Eating for Quality of Life) – Professor Wendy Hall, King’s College London 
  Looking at whether Time Restricted Eating (TRE) can improve skin-related quality of life in psoriasis. 

2025 Cecil King Memorial Award recipient 

• Predicting psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis treatment response using proteomics - Dr Ali Al-Janabi, University of Manchester 
  

  A study measuring proteins in the blood of patients with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis before and after starting a TNF inhibitor to predict which patients will respond to this treatment.
