Persistent scalp scaling and itching with guttate psoriasis

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with guttate psoriasis and have persistent itching and dry, oatmeal-like scales across most of my scalp.
I previously used ketoconazole shampoo, clobetasol shampoo, and beta scalp solution. They helped while I was using them, but the symptoms kept returning after I stopped. I am currently using Head & Shoulders every day, but the itching and scaling continue.
Has anyone experienced something similar? What is a safe way to soften and remove the scales without scratching or damaging the scalp? I would also appreciate advice on a long-term maintenance routine and what I should discuss with my dermatologist, especially regarding the safe use of clobetasol or other scalp treatments.
Thank you.

Hi Ed,
I have been having similar problems for the past 12 months, including some hair loss (longish hair) and this is very traumatic to me. Because my scales became so bad and wide spread recently I started looking for a good shampoo. At the moment I have the following ones:
Sea Magic Mineral Shampoo
Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo
I am going to buy T/Gel this week.
I will be using them in turns.
With regards to stopping the itching and scaling, I am currently using the coconut oil every other day and wash my hair between. I used any cream with urea or deep moisturising one in the past. The oily lotions/creams are better.
As far as I am aware the steroid creams and lotions can only be used for a short period of time and then they must be stopped. Also, the external treatments for psoriasis can only help with removing the scales but they will not stop psoriasis from re-appearing. Your dermatologist should know that you need to treat the psoriasis from the inside of your body, mainly intestines.
After starting my psoriasis about 50 years ago (it was only concentrated on my scalp) I had times where it was completely gone and then, after a while it appeared again. I can only speculate that it was due to my life long problems with digestive issues or stress. Therefore, I am now taking religiously: liquid vitamin D3, probiotics, Magnesium and krill oil. There are strict dietary rules what to or not to eat when you have psoriasis, so check those online.
Good luck with reducing those horrid scales!
